After stretching, the stag turned away. He lowered his head to grab a mouthful of grass and moved off through the trees.
The audience is over
The spell was broken and I was back under the old oak again, aware that there were other deer near me. As I looked around I saw the rest of the herd drifting away. To my left was this wonderful contrast of sunlight and shadows. Some of the hinds were outlined in light. It was a magical moment and these photos don't do it justice. But I hope they convey, at least a little, something of the experience.

So, that's how I spent my birthday. I'm not hard to please. The best things in life really ARE free, you just have to look. The wonders of Nature are all around you.
