A few minutes along and we came upon this rather grand entrance to a country estate. Most likely the sheep meadow shown above was part of that estate. Whether it is an estate that is still in tact or not I do not know. Didn't people know how to put on ostentatious displays of wealth back then? And in all honesty, this was probably just the BACK entrance, lol. Don't you just love that crown on the lion?
Always on the look out for smaller wildlife and birds we spotted a hen Pheasant and a Red-Legged Partridge in a field. Amazingly, the Partridge showed no signs of fear but the Pheasant fled. Without realizing it, I caught the Pheasant running past the Partridge. We also spotted a hare in a field; when we stopped he bounded off then paused to assess whether we presented any danger.
